Believer: My Forty Years in Politics 4/5

David Axelrod, 2016

Believer tells the story of David Axelrod – one of America’s most successful political consultants of recent history and most notably, the chief strategist behind Barack Obama’s success.  The story starts at the beginning, charting Axelrod’s childhood and laying the foundation for his political calling.  Thankfully, and unlike many autobiographies, Axelrod breezes through his childhood and quickly gets to the good stuff.

As expected the lion’s share of the story centers around his time with Obama.  For me, I’ve read that story many times over so I was thrilled with the entertaining telling of his previous down ticket work.  His endless campaign war stories in local, state and congressional races were a fascinating read.  Tales of his time as a journalist with the Tribune were equally enthralling.

Highly easy read on what it takes to get someone elected and one man’s central role in the process.
